Getting started
Set up is quick and easy, typically taking just
a couple of minutes per server. You’ll begin by
simply logging on to the LiveVault Web
Management Portal and installing lightweight
agent software on the servers you want to back
up. Then, select the data to protect with a
simple point-and-click, and set up the rules to
use, including scheduling, bandwidth throttling,
and data retention. The agent then performs the
initial synchronization (the one and only full
server backup) based on the rules you set. When
this is complete, you will receive an email
notification from LiveVault.
Installing LiveVault TurboRestore, a
local rapid recovery appliance, is even easier.
Just plug it into your network and LiveVault
TurboRestore automatically configures itself to
your environment.

Automatic Backup
Using your broadband Internet connection,
LiveVault InSync automatically performs server
backup on a continuous or a scheduled basis,
keeping your files safe. LiveVault InSync
compresses, encrypts and transmits data to your
onsite LiveVault TurboRestore appliance (if
that’s part of your InSync solution) as well as
to the offsite LiveVault Data Storage Vault.
LiveVault InSync transmits only the data that
has changed, substantially minimizing bandwidth,
and allowing LiveVault InSync to efficiently
capture and retain data history.
Secure, Offsite Data Storage
With LiveVault InSync, your data is protected
every step of the way. Using state-of-the-art
security, including AES encryption, VPN
tunneling and digital certificates, LiveVault
ensures that your data is continuously stored
offsite at a secure, remote facility.
All data is encrypted at the source using
256-bit AES encryption, to ensure that data is
secure from the moment it leaves your server, to
storage at a LiveVault Data Storage Vault,
through restores back to your systems. LiveVault
InSync utilizes SSL security to establish a
secure, resilient communication tunnel to
LiveVault TurboRestore, onsite rapid recovery
appliance, and to the LiveVault Data Storage
Vault. This ensures that your data is always
protected with data encrypted in transit, and
while in the secure Vault. The data can only be
decrypted using a key you control.
Each secure LiveVault Data Storage Vault
facility features comprehensive physical
security, UPS, emergency backup generators and
fire protection systems. Together with
LiveVault’s Virtual Backup Network and redundant
service architecture, you can be assured that
your backup is consistently executed and your
business data is fully protected.
Performing Restores
LiveVault InSync is designed to make restores
easy and intuitive, ensuring that data can be
recovered rapidly and accurately. To restore
data, simply log onto the LiveVault Web
Management Portal from anywhere at anytime,
select the data you want to restore, and define
where you want to restore it. With LiveVault
InSync, you can initiate a restore from a Web
browser in seconds, and recover the current
version or a historical version in minutes.
During recoveries, LiveVault InSync scans the
restore destination to determine what duplicate
files are already present and which bytes within
the file are different. The system then restores
only the data that has changed, ensuring
radically fast recoveries.
In addition, LiveVault’s DeltaRestore feature
allows you to quickly restore a historic copy of
a very large database or folder to a specific
point in time. DeltaRestore means lightning fast
recovery after a corruption event because only
the bytes in the files that are different move.
And, if you use LiveVault TurboRestore, a local
disk appliance, most data will be recovered
directly from the appliance for even faster,
LAN-speed restores.
